As Halloween approaches, the Batavia Police Department reminds everyone that impaired driving is no treat. Whether you’re celebrating with friends or out trick-or-treating with family, safety should always be your top priority. Plan ahead — because “It’s Not a Game.”
Halloween is meant to be fun, not tragic. Alcohol, cannabis, and other substances can impair your ability to drive safely. Plan a sober ride before heading out and always wear your seat belt. Smart choices save lives.
DUI laws apply to alcohol, cannabis, and any impairing substance — even legal ones. If you feel different, you drive different. And remember: seat belts are required for every passenger, every trip.
To help keep our roads safe this Halloween, the Batavia Police Department urges everyone to:
- Plan a safe, sober ride before you go out.
- Use a designated driver, rideshare, or public transportation.
- Don’t walk while impaired — find a sober friend to help.
- Always wear your seatbelt.
- Report impaired drivers to law enforcement.
- Stop friends from driving impaired — take their keys and help them get home safely.
The “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Drive High. Get a DUI.” campaigns are supported by federal highway safety grants from the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) and reinforced by the “It’s Not a Game” initiative, promoting sober driving across Illinois.
