The City of Batavia is launching a new sign campaign encouraging drivers to drive at a safe, legal speed.
Starting July 1 through Nov. 2, 2022, Slow the Fast Down signs will be available for residents and businesses to post on their property. The signs are an effort to provide a visual reminder to drivers to abide by the speed limit, especially in the warmer months when more pedestrians and bicyclists are sharing the road.
The City of Batavia hopes to raise awareness about the dangers of speeding and distracted driving which continues to be a top traffic safety issue in the area.
Free Slow the Fast Down signs are available to Batavia residents and businesses. You may pick up a sign and sign holder at the Batavia Public Library, 10 S. Batavia Ave., the Batavia Park District Civic Center, 327 W. Wilson St., and the Batavia Farmers Market at the MainStreet information booth across from the pedestrian bridge. One sign per household or business, please.
City Hall is temporarily out of signs, but more are on order. We will update the website when these are available.
Sign posting rules
- Please post the signs on your property, not in the parkway. (A parkway is a grassy area between the sidewalk and the street.) If your sign is placed on the parkway, it may be moved by the City of Batavia code enforcement.
- The signs provided are meant to be posted for a limited duration. This campaign will run from Friday, July 1 thru Tuesday, Nov. 1, 2022.
- You may keep your sign at the end of the campaign period, or you may return it to
City of Batavia
