Education Is The Key The Batavia Police Department believes that people will make good choices when they have good information. The department offers a variety of educational programs designed to help citizens obey the law and maximize their safety.
D.A.R.E.: Drug Abuse Resistance Education is a prevention program that not only exposes the dangers of taking drugs, but also emphasizes the importance of making good decisions. The program is taught to all fifth grade students in the Batavia Public Schools by a uniformed Batavia Police Department D.A.R.E. Officer. The D.A.R.E. Officer visits each fifth grade class for 45 minutes per week for 15 consecutive weeks. Mini D.A.R.E. classes are also available for k through fourth grade classes.
OPERATION STRAIGHT I.D.:The Batavia Police Department, in conjunction with the Illinois Secretary of States Office, periodically offers the holders of liquor licenses as well as tobacco retailers the opportunity to learn the proper procedures for checking identification, and how to fake and altered driver’s licenses and ID cards. The Batavia Police Department conducts checks of local liquor and tobacco selling establishments to ensure that persons under the age of 21 are not served or sold alcoholic beverages and that persons under the age of 18 are unable to purchase tobacco products.
SENIOR AWARENESS:Senior citizens have special needs, so the Police Department has developed programs that deal with topics of concern, such as personal safety, paramedic service and fraud.
POLICE DEPARTMENT TOURS:We are always happy to try to accommodate school groups, day care facilities and scout groups with tours of the Batavia Police Department. The Batavia Police department is a 24-hour operation. Due to the increase in activity on week-ends, we schedule tours on Mondays through Thursdays, after school and early evening. Tours during school hours are scheduled according to the availability of police personnel. To schedule a tour, please call the Batavia Police Department at (630) 454-2500.
