Curbside recycling...
What you can put in your bins and on the curb
In Batavia, you can include the following items in your recycling bin:
- Plastic bottles/containers (#1 - #5)
- Plastic six-pack rings
- Milk/Juice cartons (coated paper with folded tops OR plastic spouts)
- Newspaper
- Magazine, catalogs, phone books
- Chipboard (for example, cereal, tissue and cracker boxes)
- Mixed Paper (junk mail, computer paper, envelopes, etc.)
- Cardboard (flatten and cut down to 36" x 36")
- Paper grocery bags
- Aluminum and steelcans
- Aluminum foil and pie tins
- Aerosol cans (must be empty)
- Paint cans (must be empty)
- Glass bottles and jars (all colors)
- Pizza boxes (but only the outer box and not the dirty tray)
You CAN NOT recycle the following:
- Styrofoam or foam containers of any sort
- Caps off plastic bottles (best to remove them and throw in trash)
- Plastics that are not numbered
- Lids from yogurt containers
You can buy recycling bins from the city or use your own. If you use your own, the maximum size is 32 gallons and 50 pounds. Please mark the container clearly as "RECYCLING".
Recycle bins and lids may be purchased at the Batavia City Hall in the Utility Billing Department. Bins cost $8.00 and lids cost $2.00.
Batavia also offers curbside battery collection for A, AA, AAA, C, D and 9 volt batteries. Simply place your used batteries (only those types listed above) in a re-sealable bag on the ground next to your recycling bin.
Rechargeable Batteries found in cell phones, cordless power tools, laptop computers, camcorders, digital cameras and remote control toys. Drop off at City Hall, 100 North Island Avenue, or the Public Works Department, 200 North Raddant Road.
Additionally, Batavia residents can recycle their used motor oil by placing used oil containers (which should be plastic, securely sealed and not to exceed one gallon) at the curb separate from, but next to, the recycling bin.
