Annual Batavia Chamber Inspire Event to be held on January 25

2017 Spirit of Batavia Award honors night

Since 1958, The Batavia Chamber of Commerce has recognized those individuals who inspire us with their outstanding contributions to our Batavia Community. This year's Batavia Citizen of the Year Award goes to
Marcia Boyce from Boyce Body Werks.

In its second year, the2017 Spirit of Batavia Award has been presented to the
Rotary Club of Batavia for recently making a significant, positive impact on our community.

We will also be celebrating the recipients of our Ole Awards. These are organizations who have beautified Batavia and provided economic growth with newly constructed buildings and renovations of existing and historic properties. These organizations inspire us to invest in, and take pride in, our Batavia community! This year's Ole award winners are:
Aldi Corporate, Moline Bearing, Goodwill, Batavia Family Dental, Salsa Verde, Suncast, Briana's, Dino Alex and Gaetanos.

Please plan to join us at the Nagel Emporium at Abbey Farms on Thursday, January 25 at 6:00 p.m. to celebrate our honorees! The ticket price is $40 and it includes heavy appetizers, a champagne toast and a cash bar. Reserved tables of 8 are available for $350 or individual tickets are $40/each. In lieu of raffle items, we will be holding a live auction! One item will be an advertising package for a full year valued at $1500! We also have some remaining sponsorship opportunities available on our registration page, please be sure to check them out!

Bald Eagle over Batavia

BATAVIA BECOMING KNOWN FOR ITS BALD EAGLES

Bring your binoculars or camera and come to downtown Batavia for first rate eagle watching. Perch on the Peace Bridge for a view up and down the river, or park on the east side for good morning light and on the west side for afternoon eagle-watching.

Take a stroll up the Riverwalk and enjoy the sight of eagles young and old fishing and dining on the meals they've caught.

Then stay for breakfast, lunch or dinner at one of Batavia's many fine restaurants!

Don't feed the geese

But please, don't feed bread to the geese, ducks or other wildlife

During winter, waterfowl including mallards and Canada geese often gather together on ice edges. It can be tempting to want to feed these birds, but throwing bread to ducks and geese is a very bad idea. It disturbs their dietary balance and can result in a crippling condition called Angel Wing that ruins the primaries or flight feathers. This renders the birds unable to fly. Please refrain in all circumstances from feeding bread to ducks and geese in any location, in any season, or at any time.
