Construction on Route 31

Route 31 Resurfacing continues through second week of October

Here are plans for IDOT’s resurfacing of Rt. 31 (from Main St south to Batavia corporate limits)

Week of 9/11 – Pavement patching with moving & temporary lane closures. Often two-lane traffic.

Weeks of 9/18 & 9/25 – Structure adjustments, with lane closures to remain for 2-3 days after the structure adjustments are  made

Weeks of 10/2 & 10/9 – Final surface course & pavement striping

Please drive through the work zone with caution. Separate hazards if large trucks or other wide vehicles are approaching. Do not ride bicycles on this stretch of road under any circumstance.

Fresh Oil

Street crackfilling started 9/06.

Road resurfacing continues in sections of Batavia

The City of Batavia started its annual Street Crackfilling project on September 6, 2017. The work will require about 6 weeks to complete.

Each year, the city evaluates its streets and selects cost-effective maintenance treatments to enhance and extend the useful life of the pavement. When a pavement is relatively in better condition, crackfill is applied to extend the life of the pavement and reduce spot repairs such as potholes.

The Crackfill Program is a very cost effective program and is performed each year on a number of city streets to prevent water from entering the pavement and reduce the spread of cracking. The roadways will remain open to at least one lane of traffic in each direction at all times and any lane closures will occur between 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. to minimize the impact during peak travel times.  Parking may be restricted for short periods of time when the contractor is working along local streets.

A map showing the streets to be crackfilled is also available on the City website at: http://www.cityofbatavia.net/603/Street-Crackfilling-Program

There are also sections of Batavia where complete road resurfacing work is being completed. Often this work requires fresh oil to be placed on graded surfaces. Avoid these streets during this phase or drive very slowly to avoid oil splatters on the underside of your vehicle.
