Heavy Traffic Delays Expected
2017 Half Marathon – Batavia, IL
Sunday, August 27, 2017
 7:00 A.M. – 11:00 A.M.
 
The 2017 Half Marathon will be held this Sunday, August 27, 2017. There will be a number of temporary traffic interruptions throughout the City of Batavia. City residents and the motoring public should expect significant delays during the timeframe of this event. 
 
The race begins at 7:00 A.M. and will end at approximately 11:00 AM.  The race consists of a 13.1 mile run beginning and ending in the downtown business district. This is an “open road” event, and participants have been instructed accordingly. Roads will remain open for passage with temporary traffic interruptions as participants make their way through the course.
 
Motorists, please be prepared to encounter increased pedestrian/ runner traffic on the following main and arterial streets as well as in the downtown area: Batavia Ave (Route31), Van Nortwick Ave, Western Ave, North Washington Ave (Route 25), Wilson St. (downtown), Hart Rd, Raddant Rd. and Prairie St. Intersections will be staffed by public safety employees and/or race volunteers. Vehicular traffic will be allowed to pass through intersections when it is deemed safe to do so by public safety staff and volunteers.

Construction on Route 31

Here's the schedule on the Route 31 Resurfacing in the coming weeks


IDOT’s resurfacing of Rt. 31 (from Main St south to corporate limits)

Week of 8/28 – Milling existing surface course from Main Street, Batavia to Oak Street, North Aurora, with moving lane closures

Weeks of 9/4 & 9/11 – Pavement patching with moving & temporary lane closures
Weeks of 9/18 & 9/25 – Structure adjustments, with lane closures to remain for 2-3 days after the structure adjustments are  made

Weeks of 10/2 & 10/9 – Final surface course & pavement striping
 
Please drive through the work zone with caution.  


Batavia Residential Brush Collection Schedule for September


The next eastside brush collection begins the week of Monday, September 11; westside brush collection begins the week of Monday, September 18.  Please be sure to have your brush out no later than 7 a.m. on Monday of your scheduled week.  Residents are asked to store their brush outside the parkway until the weekend before the scheduled pickup.  The remaining 2017 schedule and information about how to prepare your brush can be found on the Brush Collection information page.  If you have any questions, please call the Street Division at 630-454-2400.

Recycle those old electronics the right way. Here's how. 


The Kane County Electronics Recycling Program offers three daily drop-off locations throughout the county, as well as one-day collection events in St. Charles.  Please visit the Kane County Recycles webpage for information about drop off locations, upcoming collection events, acceptable/unacceptable electronics items, costs, and payment options.  Most items are still free, but there will be a charge for TVs and computer monitors, depending on the screen size.  Pay online in advance (use link above) or pay at site with cash or card only. 

The closest site for Batavia residents is the former Juvenile Justice Center property at 517 Fabyan Parkway, between Route 25 and Kirk Rd. on the north side of the street.  Hours are M-F from 8 am to 4 pm.

July 24, 2017 (Batavia, IL) - Batavia Public School District 101’s third annual Hall of Honor celebration is set for Thursday, October 5, 2017, 6 p.m., at the Batavia Fine Arts Centre located at Batavia High School (Wilson St. entrance). Tickets are available at http://hoh.ezregister.com ($25/adult; $5/child or student).
 
The BPS101 Hall of Honor was initiated by the Batavia Foundation for Educational Excellence and BPS101 to promote pride in Batavia Public Schools and to honor alumni, faculty, and friends who have made outstanding accomplishments in their communities and personal lives since they have been associated with District 101.
 
Because the awards ceremony will be part of Homecoming Week, Hall of Honor inductees will also be recognized at the Homecoming Parade on Wednesday, October 4 and the Homecoming football game on Friday, Oct. 6.

Batavia Chamber of Commerce releases new edition of popular game featuring local attractions

Many of you are already aware, we have made a Batavia Board Game! The game features the Batavia Public Library, Batavia Public School District, Batavia MainStreet, City of Batavia, Fermilab, Batavia Park District, and many of your favorite businesses and organizations around Batavia.  All the properties are named after streets in Batavia.  You and your family will also be able to play using custom pewter pieces including: a bulldog, a lighthouse, Wilson Hall, Bruce the Spruce, Mr. Egghead, and even Mayor Schielke! 

Pre-sales have already started and will continue throughout the summer.  You can visit us at Batavia Farmers Market on July 8th and July 22nd, the Batavia Fireworks Show, and during Windmill City Festival.  You can also reserve your game by calling Batavia Chamber of Commerce at 630-879-7134.  Each game is $25.  A limited quantity will be available at select Batavia retailers, but reserving your game now guarantees you will be able to receive one.  These games make wonderful gifts and will be in hand for the holiday season!
