Annual Rain Barrel Sale Is Back In Batavia!
The City is hosting the 7th Annual Rain Barrel Sale with The Conservation Foundation and is currently taking orders for your Rain Barrels, available now until the end of the business day on Monday, May 1st. The orders placed online are for credit card purchases only and cash/check purchases can be brought to the Conservation @ Home program on April 6th at City Hall at 7 P.M. and placed directly with the Conservation Foundation representative. The Conservation Foundation Rain Barrels are 55 gallons each and made from recycled food grade plastic. The rain barrels come equipped with a spigot, garden hose threaded overflow and screw off lid with a screen to keep out bugs and debris, and a 1 year warranty. There are two options for pricing and delivery: a barrel with standard pick-up or a barrel and with home delivery: the prices for these options are $60 or $65 respectively and are available in the following colors: black, blue, grey and terra cotta.
To place an order go to www.cityofbatavia.net/rainbarrels anytime from now until May 1st. The orders will be delivered Saturday, May 6th from 10am-12pm to Clark Island Skate Park located along the Fox River off Route 25 at approximately 411 S. River Street. If you choose to have home delivery you will be prompted to complete more information on the website. The delivery date will be coordinated with the supplier when enough barrels are purchased in the area. Spring Schedule Reminders for Yard Waste and Brush Collection
- Yard waste collection begins in April on residents’ regular refuse collection day. Please see the Yard Waste information page for details about the program.
- Brush collection starts in May. The 2017 schedule and information about how to prepare your brush can be found on the Brush Collection information page.
Residents are asked to store their yard waste and brush outside of the parkway until the weekend before the scheduled pickup. If you have any questions, please call the Street Division at 630-454-2400.
Ward 1 & Area 3 Drainage Improvements
Investigation work will continue in these are areas over the next few weeks. TSC (Testing Services Corporation) will be drilling 10 soil borings in Ward 1 and 14 soil borings in Area 3 to explore soil and groundwater conditions. These borings will help provide design and construction recommendations in connection with the proposed sewer separation for Area 3 and improvements to the storm sewer in Ward 1. Signs will provide warnings and flaggers may be present as well.

2017 Sidewalk and Curb Replacement Program Starts
Removal and replacement starts the week of 4/3. Restoration will be completed by the end of May when the entire job shall be completed. For more information please check the City’s Capital Improvement webpage for this project and the overall 2017 Construction Season map.

New PACE I-90 Express Service to Rosemont, Schaumburg
Batavia residents can catch an express bus from our new Randall Road Park-n-Ride to either Rosemont or Schaumburg and continue their commute. The cost is only $1.75 one-way (with Ventra card).
Kane County Electronics Recycling Event on April 1, 2017
The next Kane County Recycles Event will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2017, between 8 a.m. and 12 noon, at 540 S. Randall in St. Charles. At the upcoming event, you can recycle BOOKS of any age and condition and ELECTRONICS such as computers, keyboards, laptops, printers, stereos, cell phones, microwaves, Christmas lights, and more. Latex and oil PAINT will be accepted at this event for a fee. Latex paint fee is $2/pint, $3.50/gallon, and $10/5-gallon bucket; Oil paint fee is $6/gallon; $25/5-gallon bucket. Oil paint can be disposed of for free at the Naperville Household Hazardous Waste facility for free. Televisions (any size or age) and monitors are also accepted, but there is a cost. The fee will be $25 for screens under 21” (measured diagonally) and $35 for screens 21” and over. Document shredding is also offered for residents only with a four-box limit; must be in paper bags or boxes. Fees may be paid online in advance or onsite by exact cash or card; paint is cash or check only. It is recommended that you pay online in advance if possible and bring your receipt to any drop-off or the collection event. Unloading assistance is provided. A complete list of accepted items and more information can be found on the Kane County Recycles website. Hazardous waste or large household appliances like washers and refrigerators are not accepted.
In addition, the Kane County Electronics Recycling Program offers three daily drop-off locations throughout the county. The closest site for Batavia residents is the former Juvenile Justice Center property at 517 Fabyan Parkway, between Route 25 and Kirk Rd. on the north side of the street. Hours are M-F from 8 am to 4 pm. Most items are still free, but there will be a charge for TVs and computer monitors, depending on the screen size.
Deputy Fire Chief
The City of Batavia is seeking applicants for the position of Deputy Fire Chief. The Deputy Chief position is the second in command and directly oversees three Battalion Chiefs and three (3) Paid-on-Call Supervisors. The Deputy Chief is also expected to play an important role in the Fire Prevention Bureau and in Emergency Management preparation.The Batavia Fire Department is a combination department operating from two fire stations. The Department is made up of twenty-four full-time personnel, twelve contractual paramedic-firefighters and forty-two part-time firefighters.
To qualify for this rewarding and challenging position, candidates should possess a combination of experience and education that has prepared them for advancement. A minimum combination of ten years of progressively responsible experience as a firefighter and a company officer is required. Minimum education shall be a Bachelors Degree; accompanied by the following Fire Officer Certificates from the State Fire Marshal. Advanced Firefighter/Firefighter III, Fire Officer II, and EMT-B issued by the IDPH. Fire prevention experience, emergency management experience, and degrees in Fire Science, Emergency Medicine, Public Administration or Emergency Management will be a plus. Candidates with a unique combination of education and experience are encouraged to apply. The Deputy Chief is required to reside within 10 miles of Batavia.The Deputy Fire Chief position is in Salary Pay Grade 23 per the City Ordinance. The 2017 range for grade 23 is $95,829 - $132,133 depending on qualifications.

Electric Journeyman Lineman
The City of Batavia, (pop. 26,000), seeks qualified candidates for the position of Journeyman Lineman, for its municipally owned and operated electric distribution and sub-transmission system. Work involves a variety of skilled and technical work related to the operation and maintenance of the system. This is a skilled technical position working on the sub-transmission system, primary and secondary distribution system, and municipal street lighting system. Performs all necessary work related to the maintenance, extension, improvement, or operation of the electric utility. Duties include laying of underground cable, fiber optic cable, repair and installation of overhead lines, install electric utility and street lighting components; conducts tests of cables, lines, and other parts of the system.
Requirements: Knowledge of equipment, tools and heavy machinery used in electric utility maintenance work. Knowledge of the hazards and necessary safety precautions required in electric utility maintenance work. Perform work in a conscientious manner. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Physical strength and agility sufficient to perform relatively heavy manual work. Physical strength and agility to climb utility poles. Must be able to deal tactfully with the general public.
Possession of a H.S. Diploma/GED, I.B.E.W. Journeyman Lineman’s Card, and valid Illinois Drivers License necessary. Successful candidates will be capable of performing a variety of physical tasks in all types of weather. Starting salary $107,328 annually with excellent benefits. Ability to train and lead assigned staff.
