Annual Rain Barrel Sale Is Back In Batavia!

The City is hosting the 7th Annual Rain Barrel Sale with The Conservation Foundation and is currently taking orders for your Rain Barrels, available now until the end of the business day on Monday, May 1st.  The orders placed online are for credit card purchases only and cash/check purchases can be brought to the Conservation @ Home program on April 6th at City Hall at 7 P.M. and placed directly with the Conservation Foundation representative.   The Conservation Foundation Rain Barrels are 55 gallons each and made from recycled food grade plastic.  The rain barrels come equipped with a spigot, garden hose threaded overflow and screw off lid with a screen to keep out bugs and debris, and a 1 year warranty. There are two options for pricing and delivery: a barrel with standard pick-up or a barrel and with home delivery: the prices for these options are $60 or $65 respectively and are available in the following colors: black, blue, grey and terra cotta. 
 
To place an order go to www.cityofbatavia.net/rainbarrels anytime from now until May 1st.  The orders will be delivered Saturday, May 6th from 10am-12pm to Clark Island Skate Park located along the Fox River off Route 25 at approximately 411 S. River Street.  If you choose to have home delivery you will be prompted to complete more information on the website.  The delivery date will be coordinated with the supplier when enough barrels are purchased in the area.  If you cannot make the presentation or have additional questions please contact Jim Kleinwacther with the Conservation Foundation at (630) 553-0687 ext 302. 


Spring Schedule Reminders for Yard Waste and Brush Collection

  • Yard waste collection begins in April on residents’ regular refuse collection day.  Please see the Yard Waste information page for details about the program.   
  • Brush collection starts in May.  The 2017 schedule and information about how to prepare your brush can be found on the Brush Collection information page

Residents are asked to store their yard waste and brush outside of the parkway until the weekend before the scheduled pickup.  If you have any questions, please call the Street Division at 630-454-2400.

Batavia Environmental Commission invite the public to attend Batavia’s 9th annual A Green Night Out at the Movies on Saturday March 11. This free event will feature the documentary film The Wisdom to Survive, free popcorn and drinks, an expo of local eco groups and businesses and a lively discussion about the climate change afterward.

The Wisdom to Survive accepts the consensus of scientists that climate change has already arrived and asks, “What is keeping us from action?” The film explores how unlimited growth and greed are destroying the life-support system of the planet, the social fabric of society and the lives of billions of people. It features thought leaders and activists in the realms of science, economics and spirituality discussing how we can evolve and take action in the face of climate disruption.

Ross Powell: Ross Powell is a Board of Trustees Professor and Distinguished Research Professor in the Department of Geology and Environmental Geosciences at Northern Illinois University.
Reed Scherer: Reed Scherer is a Board of Trustees Professor and Distinguished Research Professor of Micropaleontology and Biostratigraphy at Northern Illinois University. 
Earl Silbar, Fox Valley Citizens for Peace and Justice
Deni Mathews: Citizens’ Climate Lobby Fox Valley chapter co-chair.

New PACE I-90 Express Service to Rosemont, Schaumburg

Batavia residents can catch an express bus from our new Randall Road Park-n-Ride to either Rosemont or Schaumburg and continue their commute. The cost is only $1.75 one-way (with Ventra card).


Kane County Electronics Recycling Program

The Kane County Electronics Recycling Program offers three daily drop-off locations throughout the county, as well as one-day collection events in St. Charles.  Please visit the Kane County Recycles webpage for information about drop off locations, upcoming collection events, acceptable/unacceptable electronics items, costs, and payment options.  Most items are still free, but there will be a charge for TVs and computer monitors, depending on the screen size.  Pay online in advance (use link above) or pay at site with cash or card only. 

The closest site for Batavia residents is the former Juvenile Justice Center property at 517 Fabyan Parkway, between Route 25 and Kirk Rd. on the north side of the street.  Hours are M-F from 8 am to 4 pm.
