2017 Christmas Tree Pickup
The period for Christmas tree collection without a sticker has ended. Anyone who still needs to dispose of a live Christmas tree should attach a refuse sticker to the tree and place it at the curb on the regular collection date. All materials such as plastic bags, ornaments, lights, nails, etc. should be removed from the trees. Live wreaths and garland should be placed in your regular refuse.
Civil Rights Holiday on Monday, January 16:
Refuse collection will be on a normal schedule the week of January 16 and is not affected by the Civil Rights holiday.
Kane County Electronics Recycling Event on January 14
The next Kane County Recycles Event will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2017, between 8 a.m. and 12 noon, at 540 S. Randall in St. Charles. There will not be another event until Saturday, April 1. At the upcoming event, you can recycle BOOKS of any age and condition and ELECTRONICS such as computers, keyboards, laptops, printers, stereos, cell phones, microwaves, Christmas lights, and more. Televisions (any size or age) and monitors are also accepted but there is a cost. The fee will be $25 for screens under 21” (measured diagonally) and $35 for screens 21” and over. The fee may be paid online in advance or onsite by exact cash or card. It is recommended that you pay online in advance if possible and bring your receipt to any drop-off or the collection event. You must have the receipt with you. Unloading assistance is provided. A complete list of accepted items, and more information can be found on the Kane County Recycles website. Hazardous waste or large household appliances like washers and refrigerators are not accepted.
In addition, the Kane County Electronics Recycling Program offers three daily drop-off locations throughout the county. The closest site for Batavia residents is the former Juvenile Justice Center property at 517 Fabyan Parkway, between Route 25 and Kirk Rd. on the north side of the street. Hours are M-F from 8 am to 4 pm. Sites will be closed on Monday, January 16. Most items are still free, but there will be a charge for TVs and computer monitors, depending on the screen size.
Plan Commission Seeks Feedback for Proposed Recreational Vehicle Regulations
he Plan Commission will conduct a Public Hearing on January 18th at 7:00 PM in the City Council Chambers regarding changes to zoning requirements for Recreational Vehicles in Residential Districts. The Hearing comes at the request of the City Council to investigate the City’s existing RV regulations.
The Commission will review possible changes to the Zoning Code, These changes include:
- Add a limitation for one Recreational Vehicle on a lot in Residential Districts (including RV, Trailers, Campers, etc.)
- Add a prohibition on parking of a recreational vehicle in the required front or corner side yard between October 15 and April 15
- Loading and unloading may occur for a period not exceeding 48 hours within any one week period
- All vehicles must be parked on a continuous hard surface such as concrete or asphalt.
- No guest recreational vehicles are allowed to be parked on residential property.

A Tip from the Batavia Environmental Commission
Although spreading salt on sidewalks and driveways can be necessary at times, over-salting can be harmful to your grass and gardens, and even pets. The best way to ensure clear sidewalks is by removing snow as soon as possible after it accumulates.
If you still need to apply something to help, consider using sand or a product that meets the EPA Safer Choice standard (list available at https://www.epa.gov/saferchoice/products…).
