Planning & Zoning
The Planning and Zoning Division oversees regulations that regulate the use and development of properties within the city. The Planning and Zoning Division meets with applicants to review proposed development plans. These plans are reviewed by staff for consistency with the Comprehensive Plan, Zoning Regulations and Design Standards established by the City Council and Plan Commission. Zoning regulations determine the allowed uses and specify bulk requirements for all properties.
The Planning and Zoning Department present the Batavia Plan Commission projects for review and provides technical assistance to the Commission.
The Planning and Zoning Division oversees the following:
- Current planning (response to subdivision, special permit and rezoning applications, application of the Zoning Code, Subdivision or Development Code amendments.)
- Long range planning (review and amendment of the city's Comprehensive Plan)
- Special projects (such as Historic Preservation and Population Projections)
